MEDIA ADVISORY: USARA Hosts Community Celebration for Recovery from Alcohol and Drug Addiction. Sept. 13th, 2014

Utah Support Advocates for Recovery Awareness (USARA), a non-profit Recovery  Community Organization, sponsors the event. Our mission is to celebrate, advocate, support and educate Utah about the thousands of people and families in our communities who are in recovery from drug and/or alcohol addiction.

Recovery Day is a free community celebration event sponsored by USARA and partnering organizations for people, family members, friends, allies and organizations who support addiction recovery. Over 50 exhibitors will offer information about addiction and mental health prevention, treatment and recovery.  There will be entertainment, music, food vendors and a fantastic Kids Zone with fun activities.  The event’s MC will be Channel 4 News Anchor Randall Carlisle, who will announce the 5K awards and introduce speakers as they stop by to join the celebration (Mayor Ben McAdams, Mayor Ralph Becker, etc.) between 10:00 to 11:00 am.

September is National Recovery Month and promotes the societal benefits of prevention, treatment and recovery from substance use disorders. This year’s theme, “Join the Voices for Recovery: Speak Up, Reach Out,” encourages people to openly speak up about mental health and substance use disorders and the reality of recovery, and promotes ways individuals can use to recognize behavioral health issues and reach out for help.  Recovery Day spreads the message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, that prevention works, treatment is effective and people can and do recover.
